Is it that time of the year already? 🙂
I saw Kristin Kraves Books do this book tag and was super inspired to create one of my own. Personally 2020 for me, book-wise strictly speaking, has been a really really good year, and I thought doing this tag would give me a chance to get a fresh perspective on my Read and To be Read lists. It’s not just a round-up of my best and worst books, but a more in-depth look at what I have and had on my shelves this year.
Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?
Truth be told, I have been struggling with this book for over a month now. And no, it isn’t because I don’t like the book, on the contrary, I have loved what I have read thus far, but life just keeps getting in the way! I am really hoping to have some down time in the coming weeks and crack on with it. Because Diane Setterfield is magic!
Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?
Norwegian Wood is not really an autumnal book in the true sense of the word but it is the overall vibe that Murakami creates through his writing which is subtle, dreamy and surreal. I also hate the fact that given how much I love Murakami, I still haven’t actually read this book.
Is there a new release you are still waiting for?
It’s definitely got to be First Person Singular – a collection of 8 stories told in the classic Murakami way. What more do you want?
What are the three books you want to read before the end of the year?
I have had the Obama books on my TBR for far too long and I am hoping to finish Becoming, The Audacity of Hope and A Promised Land before the year is out.
Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?
It has got to be The Underground Railroad. I read The Nickel Boys earlier this summer in my book club.
It was my very first Colson Whitehead and I cannot wait to read more of his work. If the overall theme and tone of Nickel Boys is anything to go by, The Underground Railroad will definitely be an emotional rollercoaster.
Have you already started making reading plans for 2021?
Yes and no. I started accepting Advanced Readers Copies this year and, in that perspective, my schedule is actually full until February. For my personal TBR however, I still need to find the time to sit down and make a list. I will be however, looking to continue my focus on women writers, and stories about women, additionally, also read the standard 1 – 2 Non-Fiction books.
Do you do any similar book tags or book posts? What have been your favourites this year?
You should read Norwegian Wood! 😀 Murakami is also one of my faves. I also recently finished The Undeground Railroad. Good luck with your end of the year TBR! https://readwithstefani.com/the-end-of-the-year-book-tag/

Thank you! I think I will pick up Norwegian Wood in January as it is also Murakami’s birthday month 🙂
Loved reading your answers. The Underground Railroad is so incredible. Did you know it was being adapted? The teaser trailer was released a few weeks ago!
Oh wow I did not know it is being adapted! That is amazing, I will definitely go check the trailer ASAP. Thank you 🙂
